The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is a national organization dedicated to supporting, developing, and encouraging women in all areas and levels of scientific endeavor. We include students, scientists, professionals in STEM-related positions and all others interested in supporting women in science. We have a national office in Washington, DC, and local chapters throughout the country.
AWIS, an affiliate of AAAS, is a resource recognized by news media and organizations (e.g. NIH, NSF, ACS, EPA, Congress) seeking information and advice. AWIS is frequently called upon to present testimony before Congress and national agencies. AWIS is routinely asked to provide names of women for various national positions and to comment on proposed nominations. Our "voice" is being heard. Members receive a quarterly magazine with pertinent news, grant information, and job listings.

Joint projects include professional development workshops, scholarships to women in science at community colleges and recognition awards for women who have assisted other women or girls in establishing careers in science.
AWIS - EAST BAY
Goals of the East Bay Chapter include mentoring all levels of students, providing a forum for networking, developing career and personal skills, enhancing personal empowerment, and working with groups in the area to achieve these goals. Monthly chapter activities alternate between a speaker discussing professional development and career related skills and networking socials at a local pub or coffee shop.
AWIS - PALO ALTO

A mentoring program links graduate students and post-docs with established professional women. The Chapter is active in science education in local schools.

Sacramento Valley Chapter activities include professional development programs, networking socials, and outreach. Members are scientists in industry, consulting and academia with a strong constituency from the University of California Davis. Meetings are generally held once a month.
